Tryout Regulations - We are a cut sport
TRYOUT STARTS ON August 26th
Tryouts occur for all registered players during the first week of the tennis season. The primary purpose of tryouts is to determine the relative-skill level of each player through a competitive process, so that each player will be assigned to the appropriate team [i.e. varsity, JV1, or JV2] to begin the season. A secondary purpose of tryouts is to determine which players must be cut in order to meet our team’s player capacity limit [which is 72].
On the first day of tryouts all registered players will be assigned to one of 3 tryout-groups, based on their known or purported tennis skill level.
Potential varsity and intermediate tryout groups of players will play short singles matches to determine a relative ranking [i.e. singles ladder]. The beginner tryout group of players will be determined, based on their observed skill level in “playing points in singles.” If the total number of registered students for tennis exceeds Skyline’s tennis team’s player capacity limit of 72, a candidate cut-subgroup of players in the beginner tryout group will be formed. Latest after 5 day outdoor practice we will have determined the necessary cuts. Cut players will have their Sports Fee returned to them.
